What is a file group?
A file group is a collection of directories belonging to one and the same group. When using the Filer widget, you must specify at least one file group to search in. The unspecified file groups can not be searched
What is a SecretKey?
A SecretKey is a security key which you will have to provide during the installation of Filer on any of your devices. Filer usage this key to create a unieke encryption on your data and files, which makes you the only one who is able to access this data
What is a WildCard?
A WildCard is a *-sign that means 'whatever character(s)'. For example: Fil* corresponds to Filer, but also to Filter and Faster
What is the computer name?
The computer name is an identifier how you refer to a specific computer, so you can recognize a machine by the provided computer name
Search engine
How can I use the search engine?
You can use the search engine at filer.eu/Search. When you are a corporate partner, you are able to use the search engine on your own website by making use of the Filer-widget or via the API
Can I search with advanced options?
The search engine of Filer is provided with an advance searching algorithm, which enables you to use underneath advanced search options
Multiple words
By combining multiple words, you indicate that all these words must appear in the results. For example: Filer Download
Word groups
By enclosing multiple words with double quotation marks, you can search for files that contain this phrase exactly. For example: "Filer is awesome"
Search with a wildcard
You can search wider by combining word with wildcards. To use a wildcard, the word must start with at least 3 characters. For example: "Fil*". To search for file extensions with a wildcard, the extension to be searched must consist of at least 1 character. For example: ext:*f or ext:p*fNote: It is not possible to use wildcards when searching for word groups
Words in proximity
If you search for multiple words within a specific proximity of each other, you can indicate this by enclosing the words with double quotation marks followed by the proximity distance. For example, the search "Filer is awesome"~5 searches for matches within (3 + 5 =) 8 words. For example, the query matches: Filer is awesome and Filer is a search engine which is awesome, but not with: Filer is a search engine which people mark as awesome
Exclude words
By using a word in combination with a minus-sign (-), Filer will exclude all results containing this word. The excluded word has to be combined with at least one other search option. For example: Filer -Download

Is the search engine case sensitive?
No, the search engine is not case-sensitive. This makes it easy to search through your files without having to worry about capital letters

How do I exclude folders from indexation?
In order to exclude folders from indexation, you specify the folders for each file group that should be excluded. Any already indexed files within these folders will be deleted. You can use regex options when specifying folders to be excluded

Security
How safe is Filer?
Filer works with the latest software for encryption and data transfer. For example, Filer is currently using AES-256 bit encryption in combination with SHA-512 and PBKDF2 salted hashing, followed by a two-step authentication and authorized handshakes for complete safety of your files
How does Filer process my files?
Filer processes your files locally (on your own computer), and each file is encrypted using a unique algorithm for each individual file. After the encryption process is done, the file will be sent to the servers of Filer over a secure SSL connection. Because of the unique encryption and the ssl connection, your files are totaly safe and even Filer can't access your files, which enables you to safely use the services and facilities of Filer
How secure is my information at Filer?
Filer forces an SSL connection for each request, which means that you will only get a connection with the Filer platforms when the connection is secured. That's how Filer can guarantee a safe data transfer when you are using the services and faciliteis of Filer
Who are able to access my files?
Because Filer encrypts your files locally using your own SecretKey, the file will be transfered securely. Therefore, nobody can access your files, not even Filer
Corporate
Can I use Filer within my company?
Of course you can use Filer within your company. For example, you can choose to use the search engine of Filer at filer.eu/Search or implement the search engine on your own company website with the Filer-widget
Can I make a distinction between file groups and authorized users?
Do you require a distinction between directories to deny access to specific files for certain users and grant access explicitly to others? Then use a file group for each directory and directories. By using the Filer-widget you can specify the filegroups that the user is granted to search in. Files which are not included in these file groups will be excluded from the searchresults
Can I hide file locaties for users?
Of course, you can hide the real file locations in the search results. By entering a file location as desired, the real file location in the search results will be replaced by the location you specified. You can specify a file location to show in the search results instead of the real file location for all your file groups by clicking on your installation and then adjusting the settings of the file group. This ensures that your users can not determine the real file location
Does Filer provide a VAT-invoice?
Filer provides each user a VAT-invoice, so you can benefit from any financial advantages
Privacy
How does Filer save my personal information?
Filer sends your personal information to it's servers using a secuerd SSL connection, wich will be saved , possibly with an extra layer of security e.g. your password. This extra layer of security makes sure even Filer can't access your personal information such as your password
Does Filer work together with third parties?
Filer may work with third parties, but will never provide any personal information to such cooperation. Filer will use your information only where it is intended for, namely offerint the services and facilities of Filer

Can I really use Filer for free?
If you have choosen a free package you can use Filer entirely for free
Can I use a payment period?
If you have a corporate account at File, you can use a payment period by specifying how many months you wish to handle as payment period. You can specify your desired payment period within your settings
What payment options does Filer offer?
Filer offers the possibility to pay your due amounts through both direct debit and manual payment
How can I manually pay the amounts due?
To make a manual payment you can use the payment link on both the invoice and in the e-mail or you can transfer the amount due to the account number of Filer
When does Filer collect the remaining amounts?
If you use direct debit method as your payment method, Filer will collect the amounts due from the first week of the next month. This way you always know where you stand and when you can expect the collection
Can I cancel my debit authorization at any time?
With Filer you can cancel your debit authorization without notice. You decide for yourself whether you pay by direct debit or via manual transfer. That seemed nice to us
